March Update

So my February post was pretty late into march and now my March update is into April. Nice….  Anyways, I have been busy and got something going. Just not done with it yet. I’m finding its hard to get accepted to affiliate programs with out being established. Its also hard to get established if you cant get your applications accepted. The answer is to just generate a lot of content, but that takes time. Not very passive and I am busy otherwise. I just got to chain myself to the desk and start typing. Anyways, hopefully I should have a great April update. I think this is going to be the best one yet. Oh, and I have still made $0 so far…….

February Update

Introducing AlarmClockReviewer.com! This is my first attempt at an affiliate site. The basics of an affiliate site is that you put links to a product on your site and if someone clicks on that link and ends up buying that product, you will get a small commission. Now, that’s a lot easier said than done. As, I learned setting up your own site can be tricky and time consuming. The pay off is that once it is established, the time commitment goes down but the payoffs can go up. So do the bulk work once, make periodic updates, and hopefully generate a bit of income for all your work. I chose alarm clocks because that is something where I have actually have spent time looking for the best ones. I figured that if I took that information and put it in a neat and organized fashion, I could provide that value to someone looking for the same information I already found. That’s really the basic concept though, provide value. If you can provide that value to a larger audience, you have more opportunities to capitalize on it.

I faced a couple challenges while setting this site up. That is kind of why I am doing my monthly update so late. It turns out setting up a clean looking website is hard if you have never done it before. I recommend grabbing a domain name and hosting account from bluehost.com. From there, you can install WordPress or have them do it for you, then you can start being creative. Grab a theme and a few plugins and go to town on the hard part, your content. I plan to do my own little tutorial on wordpress eventually. There are already a million of them out there already so I dont feel to pressed to spend time on that at the moment.

As for content, this is where you need to spend the bulk of your focus. I plan to continually improve mine and hopefully that will bring people to my site. My goals for the rest of this month is to improve my content quality and learn a little bit about SEO, or search Engine Optimization. I will need to actually show up on search results and have a reason to look at my page so those two things should be my top priority. I haven’t made a sale yet, so I need to work on things that drive me in that direction.

January Update

January has come and gone and unlike last year, I have actually been working on my side projects. Most of my time this month was spent learning WordPress basics and getting things set up here. I ran into things I would never have thought of like where do you get pictures for your pages and other little things like that. I probably could have saved a lot of time and effort paying someone to set things up for me but I’m a very DIY person and it was kind of fun for me to learn anyways. After I finish my first site, I plan on sharing that process in detail. I am almost done with my first project though. I chose an affiliate site just as it seemed like a simple thing to start and get my feet wet. It turns out its was a bit more of an undertaking than I originally anticipated. I expect to be done with it in the next week or two and have some thing to share by the end of the month. This is a side project after all and I only have a couple hours here and there to spend on this…..

Results 2015-12

Well, I started this back in the first part of the year and did exactly nothing with it. This seemed like a good idea at the time and it probably still is, but ideas are pretty much worthless. Execution and follow through are what produces results. That’s my first lesson learned.

Results: 2015

Revenue = $0

Expenses:

Domain Names and Hosting = -$123.74

Total: -$123.74

That’s not very inspiring. Those results represent several ideas that never came to be. Since its new-years, I’ll go ahead and make a resolution that by the end of next year I will have made at least $1 profit. Not a very lofty goal, but I got to start somewhere.
